In preparation for the Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Biblical Federation in April 2023, we invite all members and friends of our Federation to pray for God’s blessing, the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and the intercession of Mary, the Mother of the Word, for all its regions and their activities.
The intention for this month you can find here:
South Asia Subregion comprises of India and its neighboring countries. A common characteristic of Christianity in these countries is its minority status, with membership accounting for less than 3% of the population, except for Sri Lanka (7.5%). This situation has some positive consequences, namely a clear sense of identity and a strong attachment to the Bible. It also provides ample opportunity for dialogue with other religions and their sacred books. The greatest challenge in the region is the availability of the Bible in numerous local languages. To address this challenge, the Catholic Biblical Federation members initiated many ongoing translation projects, often in cooperation with the United Bible Societies. Another noteworthy feature of the biblical ministry in South Asia is an extensive use of modern means of communication in promoting the Bible.
On the way towards the CBF Plenary Assembly we would like to present the reality and future perspectives of the CBF South Asia Subregion in the interventions of some representatives of the institutions that compose it. All of them are committed to witnessing a focus on biblical formation and biblical animation of pastoral care in this area of the world.
