SVD Youth Camp 2024 (Ghana)
SVD Ghana Province hosted a Youth Bible Camp from 10-15 September, with the theme of “The Youth as Scripture Ambassadors.”
SVD Ghana Province, Biblical and Pastoral Ministry organised the third batch of "Youth Bible Camp" for the tertiary students with its theme “THE YOUTH AS SCRIPTURE AMBASSODORS” from Tuesday, 10th -15th September, 2024, at the Divine Word Catholic Conference Centre at Adoagyiri, Nsawam in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The students from various tertiary institutions representing various dioceses with a total number of Thirty-One (31) participated in the Camp.
The participants were taken through the following topics:
1. The origin of the Bible
a) The meaning of the name Bible in Latin and Greek
b) The Torah, the Former Prophets, the Latter Prophets and the Twelve Minor Prophets.
c) Chapterisation and the intertestamental period
d) Alexander the Great, Herod the Great and Succession after Herod.
2. Introduction to the Old and New Testament
a) Biblical Histography (The Pentateuch, the Narrative Structure: Difference between History and Story)
b) The Old Testament: Titles of the Books of the Pentateuch
c) Content of the Books
d) Authorship
e) Sources (JEDP)
f) Literary Genre
3. Introduction to the New Testament: Synoptic Gospels, John’s Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles.
a) Christianity and other Religions
b) Understanding the Word of God in respect of Pauline Letters
c) The Bible Sharing methods/ Le tio Divina, and Kerygma of the Word.
The main focus of the camp was to give basic understanding of the Word of God so that they will know, live and love the Word at all times and share it with others.
