The Bible in Arts

Last year, Catholic Biblical Association of the Archdiocese of Taipei held biblical arts and cultural exhibition competition. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the award ceremony was postponed, and was only held in April 15, 2021. It also marked the end of the celebration of the year of the Word of God.


Celebrating 50 years of the establishment of Catholic Biblical Federation (CBF) and commemorating 1600 years of the death of St. Jerome, Cardinal Tagle, the President of CBF called for its members to celebrate the year 2020 as the year of the Word of God. Last year, Catholic Biblical Association of the Archdiocese of Taipei held biblical arts and cultural exhibition competition. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the award ceremony was postponed, and was only held in April 15, 2021. It also marked the end of the celebration of the year of the Word of God.

Regional Bishop`s Conference of Taiwan in it’s 2019 meeting called all dioceses in Taiwan to celebrate the year 2020 as the year of the Word of God, and organized biblical related activities. In response, Taipei Biblical Association then organized biblical arts and cultural exhibition, which consisted of biblical articles, photography, religious paintings, as well as writing of biblical verses in Chinese calligraphy. The activities were open to all different age levels.

The exhibition was first held in One World Community Services Center in Dapinglin, Hsintien, then in Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital, and in St. Mary’s Hospital in Luodong. To appreciate all the participating artists, the diocese held an award ceremony on April 15.

On the occasion, Archbishop of Taipei, Bishop Thomas Chung said; “Fu Jen Catholic University hospital needs to be a welcoming and warmth hospital, thus it needs to cooperate with other institutions such as Biblical Association to promote biblical values. The hospital provides the venue for example,  to let people to be inspired by the Word of God.”

Fr. Tarsisius Sigho, SVD, the spiritual director of Chinese Biblical Association which is the main umbrella of all diocesan biblical associations in Taiwan, said; ”The Bible is not an icy cold book, it is warm and alive as can be seen in the arts presented here. But the most important thing is to live up the biblical messages,  to live up the Word of God in our daily lives.”

The occasion was a joyful one, since the Word of God is truly alive in the hearts of all.
